NEGOTIATIONS - Joaquin Rivera and Katharine Harer
Because the district may be losing 1 million dollars in budget funds, the district would like to negotiate only one year of a three year contract, and postpone negotiating the second and third year until amount of funds are more certain.
There was a discussion about how we want set the medical cap. Certain ideas were presented, such as increasing by a small amount the cap for the single payer plan, and have 3 different caps for single payer, single payer + 1 and family. Another proposal was to calculate an increase in the cap based on a percentage and not dollar amount. Another suggestion was that benefits could be restructured according to salary, so there would be a "sliding scale" of payment.
Victoria Clinton, negotiator for part-timers, presented her counter proposal for part-timer's office hours. She suggested that payment for office hours appear as a separate line on the paycheck. A percentage for office hours would be taken out of the base pay. Ultimately, we want to phase in office hours permanently. It is not the best settlement but it makes part-timers aware of office hour payment and sets a precedent so that the district follows the legislative mandate which has set aside funds for part-time office hours.
US LABOR AGAINST THE WAR - Katharine Harer
Katharine Harer suggested that we arrange a potluck along with AFT Local 2121 to fundraise for US Labor Against the War.
Dan Kaplan suggested that EC members contribute $25 to pay the USLAW affiliation fee.
Motion was seconded and approved that we pass USLAW 's resolution to end the war and protect our troops and veterans.
SPECIAL SESSION
A special focus meeting was planned to discuss release time issues. The tentative date is Tues, March 8 from 2:15 to 4:15.
GRIEVANCE REPORT - John Kirk
There have been some issues (not grievances) concerning sick leave. We need to make sure that district is consistent with the contract which states that sick leave is proportionate to the teaching load.
We have increasing number of teachers with health problems which need accommodations. John Kirk dug up an addendum to the contract that states if someone is off one semester and works full time the next semester, district will cover benefits full time.
CAMPUS REPORT
Chip - AFT board is back up at the PE dept. at Skyline College
Meeting was adjourned at 4:00.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathleen Feinblum
