The meeting began at 2:37 pm.
The meeting began with general congratulations to Eric
Brenner on the new look of The Advocate. Eric has also
redesigned the local's homepage (AFT1493.org), which has
links to our and other local districts' contracts.

John Kirk discussed grievances. A grievance in which a
Canada part-timer had been passed over despite having
seniority was reviewed by our lawyer. He said we could not
win this in arbitaration as the part-timer had been hired at
another school within the District. Considering that advice,
we will not take this grievance to arbitration.
A grievance involving a disruptive student at CSM was
discussed. We can not find out what, if any discipline, was
given to the student as this would violate 'the privacy of
the student,' who is still attending CSM. We await
clarification from the Chancellor on this.
A grievance involving a Canada counselor was discussed.
This counselor has for several years been an elected
official of FACC and has been able to attend their meetings
without loss of pay. However the counselor has now been told
that a sick day must been used to attend these meetings. We
see this as a violation of past practices.
